Wirecast is an encoding software that we highly recommend. It is a paid software, but has more features than FMLE's free software. It has support for multiple cameras and inputs, it allows you to record to a file while you are streaming, and is a great choice for encoding.
Note: This is by far the easiest set up method, but it DOES NOT WORK if you are also streaming to FACEBOOK LIVE (or any other output besides Stream Monkey). If you are also sending a separate stream to Facebook Live, you'll need to follow the setup instructions from our other Wirecast 7 Setup document.
To get started, download the software from their website. You can try out their free version at first to see if you like the feel. You will start out by going to the output settings and creating your presets. Go to Output in the menu and click on Output Settings.
Select RTMP server. When the window pops up, name the stream. You can name it whatever you like, but we recommend naming it something relevant to the bitrate like "Stream Monkey 1080"
For the Destination, you need to click the "More" button.
When the window pops up, you'll hold down Command + a
You will put in the following URL: https://www.streammonkey.com/xml/wirecast
After that, you should see Stream Monkey appear in the list of options. You'll need to click the check box next to it. If it does not show up immediately, you may need to get out and then go back in for the change to take effect.
Next you will choose an encoding preset, depending on which bitrate you are sending out.
Enter your username (this will be your Stream Monkey log in email address) and hit authenticate.
Enter your Stream Monkey password.
Choose a channel. This will be the stream name from your account, plus the bitrate that you are setting up. Click OK at the bottom of the screen.
That's all there is to it! You are now ready to test. Click on Stream at the top left of the screen (after making sure your inputs are all set up). After approximately a minute, you should see your stream show up in the Stream Monkey dashboard preview window.
